Jerry Jordan is Professor Emeritus at the University of Mississippi where for twenty-one years he led one of the most active and accomplished collegiate choral programs in the United States. Choirs under his direction or supervision performed to standing ovations at National and Southern Division Conventions of the American Choral Directors Association each of his last five years at Ole Miss. His Concert Singers have won seven major international choral competitions in Europe – more than any other American choir.
He has served twice as a member of the jury at the Concorso Polifonica Internazionale Guido D'Arezzo in Arezzo, Italy and has served on the jury of the Florilege Vocal de Tours. He regularly serves on juries for the Musica Mundi international choral competitions in Europe and the United States. Dr. Jordan has been a member of the artistic committees for Musica Mundi competitions in the United States and Austria. He has taught conducting seminars and adjudicated international choral competitions in Germany, Ireland, Italy, France, Hungary, Taiwan, and the United States.
The American Choral Directors Association sponsored a national survey in 1989 that named Dr. Jordan as one of America’s ten most highly recommended choral clinicians. In 1988, he made his New York City debut in the first of several performances in Lincoln Center. He also has been a regularly featured conductor in Carnegie Hall.
He was a member of the Advisory Board of Walton Music Corporation and is the editor of Walton’s Ole Miss Choral Series. In 1993, Dr. Jordan edited and published the University of Mississippi Choral Performance Library. Mailed free to choral directors across the United States, this innovative edition of works was the first major publication that made traditional and new music immediately available by photocopy.
Dr. Jordan is a graduate of The Florida State University and the University of Illinois. He and Ms. Jean Jordan are the only husband and wife who both have directed college choirs in performances at national conventions of ACDA. Jean is Professor Emeritus of Voice at Ole Miss. Dr. and Ms. Jordan own a telecommunications business in Oxford, Mississippi serving cities in ten states.
